What are Korean Public Holidays?
Public Holiday Public holidays in Korea are official holidays designated under the "Regulation on Holidays of Government Offices." Since 2021, public holidays have been mandatory paid leave for private sector employees as well. As of 2027, there are approximately 15-18 holidays annually, including Seollal and Chuseok (3 days each), Children's Day, Liberation Day, and Hangul Day.
Substitute Holiday When a public holiday falls on a weekend, a substitute holiday is provided. Following 2023 amendments, the substitute holiday system now applies to most holidays including Liberation Day, National Foundation Day, and Hangul Day, ensuring additional weekday holidays even when they overlap with weekends.
